This brown coloured stone is actually fossilized remains of vegetation, where the organic material has been replaced by minerals in the slow process of being replaced by stone. The organic material in these stones has been replaced by quartz, and is effectively a three dimensional representation of the original organic material. 
By the very nature of the name, this crystal enables you to establish deep roots and is particularly known to ground in times of panic or anxiety. Worth noting that this stone also lends itself to being a meditation aid.
