Amber is a tree resin that has 'aged' during the course of millions of years by losing water, and has gradually mineralized. Amber was the first recorded precious stone in human history. It has been used as a healing stone and amulet for at least 7000 years. It is reputed that Stone age man imbued amber with supernatural properties and used it to wear and to worship with it. Amber took on great value and significance to, among others, the Egyptians, Etruscans, Greeks, Assyrians and Phoenicians.

Spiritually amber encourages a sunny nature, which appears gentle and pliable, but is actually very self-confident. It makes the wearer spontaneous and open but a respecter of tradition at the same time. A powerful protector, amber links the everyday self to the higher spiritual reality. It promotes altruism and brings wisdom.

Emotionally amber bestows freedom from care, good luck and happiness. It is an excellent crystal for relieving depression and anxiety as it makes the wearer peace-loving and trusting and strengthens self-belief. This beautiful honey coloured stone melts away rigid or confrontational attitudes in others and is excellent if a workplace is fiercely competitive. Amber attracts prosperity and success.

Mentally amber dissolves oppositions, making us more flexible, and encourages creativity. It stimulates the intellect and promotes a positive mental state and creative self-expression. Bringing balance and patience amber encourages decision-making, and is a useful memory aid.

Physically amber helps with stomach, spleen and kidney complaints as well as with liver, gallbladder and metabolically based skin complaints.  Amber helps with joint problems caused by a build up of cartilage, fortifies mucous membranes, enhances healing of wounds and alleviates teething pain in small children.

Amber works best if it is worn frequently and for long periods of time. Amber beads for babies work better if they are worn by the mother for a while first (they absorb relevant information).
